I am a 71-year-old woman who, at the age of 69, was diagnosed with cancer in the right kidney that had escaped into the IVC, and worked its way up to the port of my heart, but had not metastasized anywhere else. Although I had no known symptoms prior to the discovery, I was told that I had had it a very long time. On May 12, 2021, I began my journey with Dr. Zakharia at the U of Iowa Cancer Clinic, and after two years of treatment, my tumors have shrunk, mostly died, and have become stable enough to pause my infusions. Although it has not always been easy, and there was a time when I had to give up my passion of teaching women in my neighborhood and "special" ladies in a homeless shelter, about my heavenly God. I am so grateful to have my health restored enough so that I can reengage in my passion.
Although, it is not yet completed, I have confidently placed my trust in my heavenly Father, and the kind hands of my caregivers who are walking with me in this journey.
