KCCure
Dena Battle is the President of KCCure, an evidence based, patient driven kidney cancer advocacy organization, dedicated to improving outcomes through outreach, education, and research. Since launching in 2016, KCCure has raised over $2 million for kidney cancer research and advocacy, established a competitive, peer-reviewed research grant program, and created a patient centered research program aimed at providing quantitative information about patient preferences and desires related to care and treatment. In addition to her work with KCCure, she is a member of the NCI Genitourinary Steering Committee, serves on the Alliance GU Steering Committee and served as panel member of the SITC guidelines for immunotherapy in renal cell carcinoma. She is the author of numerous publications related to patient reported outcomes in kidney cancer.
In 2009, at the age of 40, Dena’s husband, Chris Battle was diagnosed with metastatic kidney cancer. Together, they began a quest for the best care possible to combat the disease. Chris participated in multiple clinical trials, and endured nine different therapies, including off-label treatment. They co-authored the blog Kidney Cancer Chronicles, which was widely read by patients from around the world. After Chris’s death in 2013, she remained active as a patient advocate.
Dena began her career in Washington, DC, as a congressional aide, and spent nearly two decades working in economic and health care policy. She has policy expertise in health care reimbursement, tax treatment of benefit plans, and corporate research and development policy.
