Dr. Payal Kapur, is a Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center with joint appointments in the Departments of Pathology and Urology. She is the Director of Genitourinary Pathology and Director of Clinical Research Affairs in the Department of Pathology and the Co-Leader of the Kidney Cancer Program at the Simmons Cancer Center. She is also member of the Renal Cancer Task Force for the Genitourinary Steering Committee (GUSC) at the National Cancer Institute, and member of the Kidney Cancer panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
Dr. Kapur’s research is focused on characterizing kidney cancer, in particular the identification and development of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic molecular biomarkers. Her work has made significant contributions including a new molecular classification of kidney cancer, the development of novel genetically-engineered mouse models reproducing common genetic events, the development of a framework to understand the relative contribution of kidney cancer genes, and describing a comprehensive morphological ontology and their clinical significance.
